Brugada and Taboada divide CDMX

 Brugada and Taboada divide CDMX

Diego Martín Velázquez Caballero

Although the last Chilango debate was better divided between Clara Brugada and Santiago Taboada, demographic trends continue to show Mexico City as Morena's Achilles Heel. It is true that the Morenoist bases managed to stop the imposition of candidates outside the social base of the movement; as happened in many other places. However, the long time in power of the left and the errors in the exercise of government constitute heavy burdens that stop the concatenation of the different groups of the left, progressivism and collectivism that could support Brugada and Sheinbaum.

The 2021 electoral results have not been well studied by Clara Brugada. Although her political platform increasingly has better proposals, her vision of government is partial and, in the search for electoral mobilization, she forgets the inclusion of voters other than the traditional Morenoist profile.

President López Obrador has tried to polarize the progressive identity of CDMX, there is no doubt that the historical trends that confronted the authoritarian model of the Hegemonic Party and the rigidity of voracious neoliberalism. However, the country's capital has also become the headquarters of the most active groups against López Obradorism.

Clara Brugada's triumph depends on a full identification with the cosmopolitan progressivism of Mexico City. Social programs and welfare are important for a huge social sector based there; Although, it is also important to consider security for all social levels, education, transportation and mobility policies that a city of such proportion demands. CDMX is one of the most important population references on the planet and perhaps it is time to import some of the references of global governance. Water, pluralism, mobility, entertainment, work and progressivism no longer depend on a single party vision.

The electoral division that is sustained stands out and does not give any indication of advantage for anyone. The truth is that all sides must redouble their efforts and that election day will be of epic proportions for everyone, it is even stated that CDMX may have one of the highest participations in its electoral roll.

Debate and Surveys on succession

 Debate and Surveys on succession

Diego Martín Velázquez Caballero

The campaign for the government of Mexico City is underway and the first debate between the candidates has taken place. Despite the unfortunate format in which the Chilango Dialogue took place, it has had the effect of showing the high competitiveness between the contenders. That is to say, despite the diffuse extension of the discursive protocol, there are precise moments where the exchange and controversy of the candidates draws the attention of citizens. Above all, because this stage of convergence of federal and local elections allows us to observe that competitiveness in CDMX is a profound criticism of Claudia Sheinbaum's government style.

Although the campaign period has not reached the halfway point, it is important to note that the inhabitants of the country's capital have a divided opinion about Sheinbaum's management. The competitiveness shown by opinion polls belies the positive management in the government, and this is surely seen by the majority of Mexicans.

The possibility that Santiago Taboada wins the governorship of CDMX leaves the presidential candidate of the Fourth Transformation in a bad position, and that may condition his victory for two reasons. One, because Mexico City is a direct reference for Claudia Sheinbaum's government; The other has to do with the size of its electoral roll, of approximately 7.6 million voters, capable of influencing the federal election.

Claudia Sheinbaum's management in Mexico City should be the reference for Mexicans to make decisions regarding their electoral exercise to define the presidency of the republic. In the immediate past, one of the worst governors in the country – Enrique Peña Nieto – was elevated to the First Judiciary of the Federal Administration and that is how it went for us. Sheinbaum occupies one of the best places in terms of its democratic quality management, public works and security; However, something happens that the gubernatorial elections in the country's capital are more competitive than those of the country and other states. What should be observed in depth in CDMX? Is the good parameters of democratic governance in Chilangolandia due to Sheinbaum or the opposition? Will have to see.

Safety or Show? The strongest letter for CDMX

Safety or Show? The strongest letter for CDMX

Diego Martín Velázquez Caballero

Omar García Harfusch and Cuauhtémoc Blanco constitute some of the best-weighted elements in terms of politicians close to Lopezobradorism. The 2021 elections made it clear that the metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexico constitutes a space with strong disputes and electoral realignment for the PAN and MORENA. An erroneous candidate for CDMX by Morena not only implies increasing the possibilities of a long-awaited alternation. In 2021, many analysts consider that there is a punishing vote for the left in the country's capital and that it tends to increase. The defeat of MORENA in CDMX puts the presidential succession of the Fourth Transformation at risk.

García Harfusch's inclusion in Lopezobradorismo has been highly questioned due to his links with the secret police of the PRI regime as well as his participation in the repressive governments of Felipe Calderón and Enrique Peña Nieto; However, this element that signifies him as someone defective and strange in the Fourth Transformation has also been strategic for the fight against crime, which constitutes one of the main problems in the governability of the center of the country. An intelligently designed platform regarding effective ways to confront crime can position you against the blue and white candidates and other outsider characters who seek to take over the government of the main entity in Mexico.

Cuauhtémoc Blanco is synonymous with efficiency. How many millions of Americanists are there in CDMX? While it is true that the government and public administration capacity of the former soccer player and former national team leaves much to be desired, the vote influenced by the charisma and sports leadership of the character in question leaves no room for doubt. White is synonymous with votes, sympathy, influence and loyalties; There is the power achieved by the evangelical and Pentecostal party that governs Morelos. It was fortunate for some that Cuauhtémoc Blanco did not run for the presidency of the republic under the banner of the soccer World Cup. From which they were saved!

Morena and Claudia Sheinbaum have a more than complicated challenge in CDMX, the consequence of their decisions affects the continuity of the Fourth Transformation and Lopezobradorismo. The electoral geography becomes more competitive as 2024 approaches and the ties of political groups begin to alter.
